How We Got Started
Hi! My name is Iliana. My sister, Emily, and I started Iliana's Bakery when I was 10 years old, and she was 14 years old. We started an online business because I had always wanted to start a bakery, but of course I was still in elementary school. My parents suggested making a website so that I could sell the delicious homemade treats I made. Fast forward to 2021, I am now 17, and I would like to advance my business and customer base. Where We Are Today
Today, I am 17 years old and finishing my last year at Windsor Secondary. I am hoping to pursue a degree in Bioengineering, a field which combines my passions for both math and science and applies them to positively impacting society.
I now recognize that my interest in STEM didn't begin in my first real chemistry class, but instead through my love of baking. Whether we realize it or not, baking is an application of chemistry which happens to result in a delicious treat. From a young age, I was tweaking cookie recipes, creating my "perfect cookie." Upon reflection, I was really tweaking different chemical reactants to create modified (better tasting) products. As I consider the past 7 years of Iliana's Bakery, it has undoubtedly changed my life for the better. From the science behind baking to the business and marketing strategies, owning a small business has taught me so much. I hope that my story inspires youth to take action just as 10-year-old Iliana once did. Following a passion can take you farther than you may ever imagine.
